Awe-inspiring Entrepreneurship!

05/06/2017

Mark Sowerby Event Those that made the effort to attend the “Beachside Chat” with Mark Sowerby were treated to some real wisdom and encouragement from the Queensland Chief Entrepreneur. He made the distinction between innovation and entrepreneurship and indicated that the latter required a tenacity that came from accepting a challenge and a need to prove to oneself that a goal was attainable.

Mark talked about achieving his personal goal in swimming the English Channel and how he faced his business goals in building Blue Sky Alternative Investments Ltd. He emphasised the need to really get to know people with whom you invest time and money and the importance of a good team when building a successful business.

Mark encouraged those in attendance to break out of the constraints sometimes imposed by those who are used to traditional ways of doing things and leverage developing technology and the opportunities offered by social media. While Queensland is heavily reliant on mining and tourism we can extend beyond these industries to develop new industry and diversify the economy.

He supports the development of a business incubator on the Gold Coast and talked about the Advance Queensland program and the benefits it affords with support for diverse business ideas. Mark is also seeking to promote Queensland as a place to invest and develop business potential.

The evening was a joint event between Beach City and the IT Forum and was sponsored by GChub and the Southport Yacht Club.
